How does an o2 sensor work?

Electrochemical oxygen sensors are mainly used to measure the oxygen content in ambient air. They measure a chemical reaction within the sensor, producing an electrical output proportional to the oxygen level. Since some electrochemical sensors generate their own analog current, they can be self-powered and thus used to measure oxygen cell-powered underwater diving and hand-held personal safety devices. Examples include ventilators, respiration sensors, and blood glucose sensors.

In terms of sensor advantages, electrochemical sensors are highly sought after due to their lower power requirements, lower detection limits, and less direct influence from interfering gases. They also tend to be cheap sensors.

One challenge with electrochemical oxygen sensors is that they rely on temperature-dependent chemical processes. The output of most electrochemical sensors relies heavily on temperature compensation to provide reliable readings under prevailing environmental conditions.

Another challenge with electrochemical oxygen sensors is that the chemical reaction stops over time, usually between 1 and 3 years, depending on the sensor design. Storing it in an oxygen-free environment will not extend the life of the sensor. As the sensor ages, it requires frequent recalibration and is not as accurate as other sensors.

How to test an o2 sensor?

1.Circuit detection: Check whether the oxygen sensor circuit is connected normally and whether the voltage is stable

2.Oxygen concentration detection: use a standard oxygen cylinder or an oxygen analyzer to measure the concentration of oxygen, and compare it with the reading of the oxygen sensor.

3.Temperature and humidity detection Ensure that the oxygen sensor is measured under normal temperature and humidity conditions, because too high or too low temperature and humidity will affect the accuracy of the oxygen sensor.

4.Replace the oxygen sensor If the above test results show that the oxygen sensor is damaged or unstable, you can consider replacing the oxygen sensor to ensure the accuracy of the measurement

5.Clean the oxygen sensor: If there is dust or dirt on the oxygen sensor, you can use a cloth or air blow to clean the oxygen sensor

6.Replace the filter element: If the oxygen sensor is used for online oxygen monitoring, the filter element needs to be replaced according to the specified cycle. It should be noted that the oxygen sensor is very sensitive. It is necessary to adjust the environment to ensure a stable environment and avoid the influence of excessive temperature, humidity and vibration
