Alcohol level sensor
Research from professional institutions at home and abroad shows that ingesting alcohol can worsen a person’s visual ability, slow down motor reflexes, and impede judgment, which can easily lead to traffic accidents and endanger the safety of oneself and others.
Blood alcohol content (BAC) is currently used to determine whether a driver is drunk and driving. In the process of drunk driving law enforcement, two methods, breath measurement and blood measurement, are usually used, among which breath measurement is the more convenient and fast one.
Alcohol level sensor
The breath alcohol content detector mainly measures alcohol through an internal alcohol sensor. There are five main sensor technologies used in commonly used breath alcohol detector products, namely semiconductor sensor detection technology, electrochemical sensor detection technology, colorimetric technology, infrared detection technology, and gas chromatography analysis technology. Among them, semiconductor type and electrochemical type are the most commonly used.
The gas-sensitive material used by the Semiconductor Alcohol Sensor is a semiconductor material with low conductivity in clean air. When alcohol vapor is present in the environment where the sensor is located, the conductivity of the sensor increases as the concentration of alcohol gas in the air increases. A simple circuit can be used to convert changes in conductivity into an output signal corresponding to that gas concentration.
Electrochemical Alcohol Sensor uses electrochemical sensing technology. Alcohol gas and oxygen undergo corresponding redox reactions on the working electrode and counter electrode of the sensor and release charges to form a current. The size of the generated current is proportional to the concentration of alcohol gas. By measuring the current to determine the alcohol concentration.
Applications of alcohol level sensor in other fields
Alcohol lock
Alcohol lock, also known as vehicle ignition automatic locking device, vehicle alcohol testing device or ignition interlock device, is an electronic breath test interlock device installed on motorcycles, cars or heavy vehicles and connected to the ignition system of the engine. Drivers must take a breath test before driving. If the breath alcohol test value exceeds the safety standard, the ignition will be locked and the engine will not be started, thereby preventing drunk driving.
Anti-drunk driving system
When the alcohol concentration in the driver’s breath reaches the set value, the system will sound a warning sound. If the driver does not stop the vehicle, the system will actively issue a command to force the vehicle to fail to start or slow down to a stop.
Other scenes
In addition, alcohol detection sensors are also widely used in pre-job testing, air quality detectors, gas analyzers and other instruments; they are also often used in hospitals, schools and other places.
