Chlorine dioxide gas monitor

What is chlorine dioxide?

Chlorine dioxide, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula ClO2, is a yellow-green to orange-yellow gas at room temperature and pressure. Chlorine dioxide is mainly used for disinfection of tap water, bleaching of flour and wood pulp, etc. However, due to its strong disinfecting ability, it is often used as a disinfectant for drinking water instead of the traditional liquid chlorine disinfection. Chlorine dioxide is harmful to the human body, inhalation of high concentrations can occur in pulmonary edema, can be fatal, serious damage to the respiratory tract. High concentrations of chlorine dioxide gas can be irritating to the skin, skin contact or ingestion of chlorine dioxide in high concentrations of the solution can cause strong irritation and corrosion. Therefore, for safety reasons, involving the presence of chlorine dioxide gas environment, need to focus on the installation and deployment of chlorine dioxide detectors for real-time monitoring.

Chlorine dioxide measurement standard value

The international standard limit value of chlorine dioxide is 0.3mg/m3, but according to China’s “China Occupational Health Standard”, the value of chlorine dioxide for short-term exposure is 0.8mg/m3, and the value of long-term exposure is 0.5mg/m3. Chlorine dioxide is currently recognized internationally as the fourth generation of disinfectants, and by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as A Ⅰ (A1: sugar salt safety level) safe disinfectant. 2000 U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration certified and recommended chlorine dioxide gas disinfection of the equivalent concentration in the air: 0.03 ~ 0.1mg / m3, allowed to be Sulfur dioxide concentration weighted equivalent to 0.3mg/m3, this certification recommended standards were introduced into the use of Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, China and many other countries; “U.S. Occupational Health Standards”.

Subsequent U.S. “Occupational Health Regulations” and China’s “Occupational Health Regulations” have the same provisions, chlorine dioxide gas in 0.28mg/m3 equivalent concentration, personnel can enter the air disinfection site.

Chlorine dioxide gas monitor

A chlorine dioxide detector is a kind of CLO2 gas detector device installed in the environment of the gas source leakage site, but at present the traditional chlorine dioxide detector installation layout generally consists of gas detectors and alarm hosts, the gas detectors are installed in the field, mainly used for on-site detection of gas concentration. The alarm controller host is installed in the duty room, its main function is to connect and control multiple detectors. If once the number of gas detectors is more, without matching the alarm controller host, it is not convenient to view the detection data, and the gas detectors in the area have been alarmed, which may not be found in time. Therefore, a chlorine dioxide detector is recommended to be used with an alarm controller in the installation and deployment.

Working Principle

The chlorine dioxide gas monitor probe will be real-time online for 24 hours to detect the site of the gas environment, if the gas leakage occurs, the probe will issue an acoustic and visual alarm signal, and the alarm signal will be transmitted to the duty room of the alarm controller host system. The controller also releases the same alarm signal and opens the relevant safety devices of the on-site equipment, such as solenoid valves, relays, etc., to complete the dual linkage of the on-site personnel and on-duty personnel emergency response.

The gas alarm controller can receive the signal from the chlorine dioxide detector probe and display the measured value in real-time. When the measured value reaches the set alarm value, the controller will issue a sound and light alarm and output control signal (switch contact output), prompting the operator to take safety measures in time, or linkage of other control equipment to ensure safe production.

Installation instructions

  1. When the specific gravity of the measured gas is greater than that of air, the gas escapes downward after leakage. The chlorine dioxide detector should be installed in the ground (30 ~ 60) cm, the sensor position should be facing down.
  2. When the specific gravity of the measured gas is smaller than air, the gas will escape upward after leakage. The chlorine dioxide detector should be installed at (30~60)cm from the ceiling and the sensor position should be facing down.

Which detection principle is good for Chlorine dioxide gas monitoring?

It is recommended to choose the electrochemical, or infrared sensor technology principle. Currently measuring chlorine dioxide toxic gases, the Electrochemical gas sensor technology principle is the most mature detection technology, because of its small power consumption, good linearity, repeatability, long life, and other characteristics, widely used in almost all laboratory areas, electrochemical chlorine dioxide detector technology principle is to detect the concentration of gas by detecting the current.

If there are high requirements for detection accuracy, it is recommended to choose the chlorine dioxide detector with the infrared principle, because the infrared principle has a high detection accuracy, good stability, fast reaction speed, and other points, the infrared principle is the use of a variety of elements of a particular wavelength of the principle of absorption, toxicity is a good, sensitive reaction, can react to many hydrocarbons. However, the structure is complicated and the cost is high.
